Living Life as a Thank You Gift to God

In our efforts to live generous thankful lives – lives of thanksgiving – we need to learn to live life as a thank you gift to God. In Psalm 50:23a, God testifies to this truth, “The sacrifice that honors me is a thankful heart.”

As believers, it is our duty to be thankful simply because of who God is! “The Lord is great. He is worthy of our praise. No one can understand how great he is.” (Psalm 145:3).

We can show our thanks for who He is by:

  • Singing from our hearts: Psalm 147:7 says, “Sing out your thanks to him; sing praises to our God...”
  • Praying to God continually: Psalm 105:1a tells us, “Give thanks to the Lord and pray to him.”

We also live lives of thanksgiving, not only because of who God is, but for all He has done. “Let all things praise the name of the Lord, because we were created at his command.” (Psalm 148:5).

For what He has done, we can show our thanks by:

  • Spreading the Good News: Isaiah 12:4 says, “Thank the Lord and praise his name! TELL THE WORLD about his wonderful love!”
  • Giving back to God: Psalm 50:14 says, “Give an offering to show your thanks to God. Give him what you promised.”

Finally, we live lives of thanksgiving for what God has promised. “God will give you everything you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.” (Matthew 6:33).

We can show our thanks for what He has promised by:

Serving Him: Hebrews 12:28b says, “Let us please God by serving him with thankful hearts...”

  • Living each day as a thank you gift: Colossians 3:17 reminds us, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God...”

May we live our lives as a thank you gift to God as we sing His praises, pray, spread the gospel, give generously, and serve Him faithfully!
