God Can Be Trusted – Heart Blockages

Over the last few weeks, we focused on God’s spiritual order and how it can help us live God’s Way. This week let’s clear our heart blockages! In Titus 2:11-12, Paul explains once we are saved, we can turn from godless living and “live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God.” As believers, we know Jesus came not only to give us life, but life abundant and overflowing into the lives of those around us. But how do we achieve that life practically? We know from a few weeks ago, it requires submission and surrender to walk in the fullness of life God offers. It is in His power as our Savior that we can break through our heart blockages and live our lives in wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to Him.

Most of us like the idea of the rich abundant life God has promised, but we struggle with surrendering everything to Him because doing so takes us outside our comfort zones and makes us wonder if we can really trust Him with everything. The truth is He is a God we can trust and as we grow in our relationship with Him and release “all the things” to Him we come to trust Him more and more. On the other hand, when we hold tightly to things, situations, and relationships, rather than trusting God with them, they become a burden and heart blockages result.

What are the common heart blockages we face? Envy, selfish ambition, disorder (James 3:14-15), temptations (Luke 17:1), arguments (Proverbs 18:19), evil thoughts (Proverbs 18:21), and all evils come from within (Mark 7:21), blocking our hearts to God’s best for us – abundant life. How do we get rid of our heart blockages? It begins with surrender and forgiveness in all areas of our lives. Our hearts determine the course of our lives and we stay in spiritual order by feeding our spirit more than our soul or our body.

This week let’s ask God to clear away our heart blockages and show us areas we need to surrender, people we need to forgive, and how we can trust Him with our whole heart so we can live the abundant life He desires for us.
